Field Investigation Plan

Question:

how does the creek area of the shrub steppe compare to the higher ground of the shrub steppe?

Hypothesis

I do expect a difference in the creek and the higher ground of the shrub steppe. the creek will have water and be moisture and the higher ground will not have water and be dry.

Materials:

use a measuring stick

Tape Measure

Pictures:

picture of shrub steppe.

Picture of a creak

I am going to search around the dry shrub steppe for a while then search around the mositured creak area.

steps for my plan

1. i'm going to walk to the higher ground of the shrub-steppe

2. i'm going to look around and observe the shrub steppe

3. i'm going to look around different areas of the higher ground

4. look at dryness and dead plants

5. im going to walk to the creek area of the shrub steppe

6. i'm going to observe the creek area of the shrub steppe

7. i'm going to look around all over and look at all the plants that are not so dry because they are all next to the creek.

Field Investigation Brief

This is my Field Investigation Brief by Jake Swain.

The question i want to answer is How does the biodiversity at the creek campared to where there is no water sorce?

Why do i want to answer this quetion? I want to answer this question because last time i went out in the field, it was super dry and seemed alot hotter then it really was. There were dead plants every where. There was mostly cheat grass every where but there was also sage brush all over. I also want to go over to the creek to see the difference between the area of the creek and the dry area of shrub steppe.

How Will I Awnser This Question?

Next time i go out in the field with my class i can look for mositure in the ground. If i dont find any water or at least moisture in the shrub steppe then thats one of the reasons its so dry. I can also go over to the creek and look at all the plants and trees and see how they are growing, then i can go back over to the dry area of the shrub steppe where theres lots of cheat grass and sage brush.

Some materials i may use are my hands to check the ground, to see if its wet or not. I can also use materials like thermonitors.

Things I Expect to find.

Some things i expect to find out in the Shrub steppe are dryness, snakes, cheat grass, and sage brush.

Concerns.

Some concerns i have are not finding any moisture in the ground at the Shrub Steppe. If i do not find any moisture at all i have my answer.

what did i do last week? in Mr. Rices class we went out in the field, and did worksheets. we did worksheets on sage brush and other plants in the shrub steppe. What did i learn about Sage brush, and the Shrub Steppe? I have learned that the Sage Brush is the main plant in the shrub steppe. I have also learned that the Shrub Steppe is home to many, many animals. lots of those animals have gone extinct due to people, and invasive species they have brought with them. I have learned all this information from my science notebook, i have written many notes that i have got from Mr. Rice.

in Mr. Sheppards class everyone worked on worksheets about natives in yakama and rainforest natives. I have learned that many Yakamas hunt, and fish for their food. I have also learned the native name for Mt. Adams is Pahto. Another thing I have learned is that the Rainforest natives are all dieing off because they are runing out animals to hunt. I have also learned that some native mothers kill thier own babys so they will still have food. Another reason they are dieing off is because of people tearing down the rainforest, so they rainforest in dissapeering. I learned all this information off a paper my teacher Mr. Sheppard has given me called the Garden Of Eden.

in Mr. Oldens room we have been doing poems, free verse poems and sonnet poems. all the poems we have been doing we have been writing about the forest and nature around these areas that we live in. I have learned much about poems, how to write them and read them correctly. I learned that Sonnet poems have 14 lines and 10 syllables in each line. l learned that every other line has to rhyme. I learned all of this from Mr. Olden speaking to the class.

Mr. Oldens rough draft. 9/22/11

What should we do about biodiversity on the shrub steppe? Many invasive species are ruining the shrub steppe, makeing the shrub steppe disapear. Many Species that are native to the Shrub Steppe, are extinct like the Pygmy Rabbit. The Sage Grouse is almost extinct also.

Why is Biodiversity important?

what i did last week 9/19/11

What did i do last week? I learned about writing poems. free verse, and sonnet poems.

in free verse poem i wrote about someone walking through a schools coutyard and watching a chipmunk run around.

What did i do this last week? I made free verse poems and worked on a sonnet poem. the free verse poem was about someone walking through a schools court yard and watching a chipmunk run around. i dident really work on the sonnet poem because i wasent here on friday to work on it. i. In science I did a Shrub Steppe Project and A Shrub Steppe  Science Standards.
